GRIFFIN, Ga. — Natalie Capps converted a far-post finish on a counter with 15 minutes to play Sunday afternoon, sending the Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘06 Explosion to a 2-1 victory over MOBA ‘06 in National Premier League Piedmont Conference action. Playing at Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park, WYSA responded from a 1-0 halftime deficit, equalizing on a penalty kick in the first five minutes of the second half.

On a breakaway, Maddie Brown was taken down in the penalty area, allowing Mariah Polk to come through with the finish.

WYSA seized the game-winning goal after Kamyla Hill secured a turnover in the attacking third. She quickly played it to Capps, who put it away to ensure the Georgia split.

“Sunday’s match was another challenge for the girls, still short-handed from the day before and going down in the first half, they had every reason to pack it up and let the game get out of hand,” WYSA ‘06 coach Thomas Goines said. “However, they found the fighting spirit that has been the hallmark of this group for years and found a way to grind out a 2-1 win.  A great team win.”

On Saturday, the Explosion were handed a 3-0 loss by Georgia Impact ‘06 Elite at the Peachtree City Athletic Complex in Senoia, Georgia.

WYSA (2-1 NPL) fell behind 3-0 at halftime, with that scoreline standing as the final margin. Physical ailments took a toll throughout.

“Saturday’s match was a tough match against a fast and aggressive opponent,” Goines said. “Unfortunately, we picked up three injuries to players throughout the match and were unable to gain much traction.”
