WYSA is proud to announce the creation of the Woody Harrison Scholarship Fund.  This fund is created with the specific goal of raising money to ease the financial burden of families looking to play competitive soccer for Wilson Youth Soccer Association.  All monies raised in this account will be directed toward scholarships for families with need within our organization.

Woody Harrison, “The Grandfather of Wilson Soccer”, has been a larger than life supporter of soccer in Wilson County and throughout North Carolina for years.  His passion for the beautiful game began in 1958, when playing in an English neighbor’s yard as a boy and has grown ever since.  He played in the early years of soccer for UNC club teams and while serving in the US Navy.  However, his true impact is his passion to spread the game in Wilson County and the surrounding areas.  He has served the soccer community at the local and state level, while being a founding member of countless leagues and organizations.  Chief among these accomplishments is being a co-founder and officer/director of Wilson Recreation Soccer and the Wilson Youth Soccer Association.  Woody’s efforts in creating and spreading the game of soccer have affected countless families and children and there is no one more deserving than he to have a scholarship fund named in his honor. This will help to create opportunities for more Wilson County youth soccer players to have access to the game at the highest possible level.

Woody still lives in Wilson and actively plays in the adult leagues.  His son Reggie coaches in the WYSA and his granddaughters are all young athletes in the club as well.
