 WILSON YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ACADEMY PROGRAM

Wilson Youth Soccer Association is pleased to announce that it will be participating under the NCYSA Academy System for U-10 and younger players, commencing with the 2009-2010 soccer year. The Academy System will replace Challenge soccer at the U-10 level. It will not impact Challenge or Classic participation at the U-11 and older age groups.

The Academy program is geared to technical skill development. There is less of an emphasis on winning and losing matches in the Academy. Instead the focus is on the development of the total soccer player and the skill sets that are necessary to succeed at the older ages.

The WYSA Academy will be directed by Matt Akins, the current Barton College Men’s Soccer Coach. Matt Akins has an impressive history of coaching and playing. He holds a United States Soccer Federation B License, has 7 years of experience coaching at the college level, 7 years coaching experience at the Club level, and played 4 years collegiately. Gary Hall, the former Men’s Soccer Coach at Barton College and the current Athletic Director at Barton College, will be evaluating every academy player twice a year. Gary Hall is recognized as one of the leading soccer teachers in North Carolina, having been inducted into the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008.

Matt Akins and Gary Hall are in the process of selecting the coaches to assist them in Academy. The WYSA is committed to having some of its best and brightest coaches working in the Academy as we realize that the better the fundamentals and technical skills are learned, the better off our kids will be in the later years playing the beautiful game!
